Jangala

Jangala is the Sanskrit word for jungle and in this story our Jangala is the rainforest situated in India. Rainforests represent just one of the beautiful natural systems we need in our environment. The Jangala Tribal Warriors live and care for the Jangala and realize at a young age how we are interdependent with our environment. They learn about living, growing and learning from the heart as a way to relate to one another and the characters, although unique and diverse in their own special way, see each other at the heart and soul level. They embrace the beauty of their differences yet interact and relate on common ground.

Jangala Tribal Warriors Series begins with Living Growing and Learning from the Heart and presents the Nurtured Heart Approach® as the universal language in the tribe. Two of the younger characters, Nina and Gabby, get entangled in a conflict that stemmed from teasing and we learn how the entire tribe stands together to make change for the better.

For Parents

Although these stories have a happy ending and make for a great read with your children, they are designed to work in tandem with the activities found in the accompanying Facilitator’s Guide. The reading, messages, and activities build them up from the inside out which we like to call Inner Wealth. Research in positive psychology speaks to the benefits of building our internal resources—even for you too!

We encourage you to hold Jangala events either intimately with your family, or get together with other parents and have a 7-week program with week 8 being a Jangala celebration of the tribe’s success. Find ways to grow social capital in your home and community.

Two of the original creators of the Jangala Tribal Warriors series, Nancy and Kelly, are both anti-bullying specialists in their respective schools. Kelly is also a 2nd-grade teacher and she made our messages come to life in such a brilliant and interactive way. Some teachers have even got more creative and built on her ideas. There are even ideas for the bulletin board.

The second book, A World Full of Greatness, has song lyrics and it is Sherry’s personal dream to hear the children sing about being in their hearts in a music class and even better, at a school recital. Will your school show them the way to be in their hearts today? We hope so! Please do share your stories with us!
